In a thrilling display of resilience and skill, the Uganda Cubs (U17) men’s national team reignited their FIFA U17 World Cup dreams with an emphatic 3-0 win over Tanzania at Bashir Mohammedia Stadium.
After a tough loss to Morocco in their opening match, the Cubs came back with a vengeance, showing their true potential and determination. From the first whistle, Uganda dominated the pitch, controlling possession and creating numerous chances. Isma Magala and captain Richard Okello were the driving forces, orchestrating the attack and leading their team with passion and precision.
The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Simon Wanyama netted his first goal of the tournament, a calm finish that broke the deadlock and gave Uganda the much-needed lead.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Cubs extended their advantage in the 84th minute. Captain Okello made it 2-0 after Bogere’s powerful shot was saved, but Okello was quick to pounce on the rebound, scoring from close range to put Uganda firmly in control.

Things went from bad to worse for Tanzania when defender Hussein Ally Mbegu was shown a red card, leaving them with one less player on the field. Uganda capitalized on the numerical advantage, and in the dying moments, they were awarded a penalty after a handball by Tanzanian defender Mohammad Makarani. Bogere James stepped up and sealed the deal, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 3-0.
With the win, Uganda’s World Cup hopes remain alive, but the journey is far from over. All eyes are now on Sunday’s crucial group finale against Zambia, where a victory will guarantee their spot in the World Cup. The Cubs are fired up, determined to make history, and ready to take the next step in their quest for global glory!
The Uganda Cubs have proven they are a force to be reckoned with, and with the support of their passionate fans, the sky is the limit for this talented squad.
